Mid-South Students “Playing for a Cure” –
Former Teacher’s Story Inspires City’s First
Lung Cancer Benefit

Jamie Young touched thousands of young lives during her eight years as a music director with Memphis City Schools. Unfortunately, her work in the classroom was cut short the day she was diagnosed with lung cancer. While her personal mission may have shifted from music to lung cancer research and awareness since then, her story has inspired hundreds of young musicians from all over Memphis and the Mid-South to pick up their instruments and play for a cure.

Craigmont High School Hits the Mark:
JROTC Shooting for Nat’l Honors after East Region Title

Craigmont High School’s Army JROTC students shot straight to the top this year, beating out 181 high schools from the Eastern region of the United States and becoming the first Memphis City School to win the Eastern Region Championship for Air Rifle Marksmanship.

Kingsbury CTC Class Shows Big League Media Skill

The Marketing Students of Kingsbury Career Technology Center successfully competed in the computer simulation Virtual Business Sports Challenge sponsored by DECA and the Knowledge Matters Corporation. For three weeks, the students were challenged to develop a media plan for a cyber-professional football team with the ultimate goal of making a profit after the season ended.

Shannon Students Stand for Black History

Third grade students at Shannon Elementary presented their Black History production, “Remembering the Past; Celebrating the Present,” on Thursday, February 16.
