The next regular meeting of the Memphis Board of Education will be Monday, May 5 beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the Board of Education Auditorium. The Board will meet again on Monday, May 19 at the same time and place.
Board Vice President Martavius Jones was a guest on WXMX 98.1 FM on Friday, May 2. He was interviewed on the station’s “Drake and Zeke” show regarding the search for a new superintendent.
The Memphis Board of Commissioners has made application to “Reform Governance in Action,” an intensive two-year training and consulting program designed to accelerate student achievement in major urban school districts be creating high-performing school boards. The program is offered through the Center for Reform School Systems (CRSS).
All MCS Board Commissioners attended the MCS Gala on April 26. Commissioner Kenneth T. Whalum Jr. performed a duet with his brother, renowned saxophonist Kirk Whalum.
The MCS Board of Commissioners will hold its semi-annual retreat on May 23-24 at the Fogelman Executive Center.
Commissioner Stephanie Gatewood is helping to organize “Continued Excellence,” a Graduate/Certification Fair for MCS teachers on Thursday, May 15 from 3 – 6 p.m. at Frayser High School.
The goal is to provide teachers with comprehensive information regarding graduate programs and financial assistance programs that are available to them for the completion and maintenance of certifications.
All teachers seeking certification or continuing education are encouraged to attend. Representatives from several Colleges of Education will be on hand to answer questions and provide information. In addition, TSAC will be represented and available to provide financial aid solutions. Childcare will be available, and door prizes will be given away.
The event is sponsored by Frayser High School, MCS Human Resources and Friends of Frayser High.
