TRANSPORTATION RULES

Plan Z/NCLB and Special Education

Parents

The following rules have been established as a guideline for acceptable behavior and safety for those pupils eligible for transportation by the Memphis City Schools.

BEHAVIOR

  1. Pupils shall cooperate with the driver. 
  2. Pupils shall not use obscene and/or abusive language. 
  3. Pupils shall not participate in excessive talking and unnecessary noise. 
  4. Pupils shall not throw items on the bus or out of the windows. 
  5. Pupils shall not fight or scuffle on the bus or at the bus stop. 
  6. Pupils shall not deliberately delay loading and unloading. 
  7. Pupils shall stay seated and not turn around in seat. 
  8. Pupils shall not use tobacco and/or drugs on the bus or at the bus stop. 
  9. Pupils shall not extend hands, arms, or head out windows. 
  10. Pupils shall not tamper with equipment or deliberately vandalize bus. 
  11. Pupils shall not consume food or drink beverages on bus. 
  12. Pupils shall not change or have changed the a.m. or p.m. riding schedule unless in possession of a signed letter from his/her parent or assigned guardian, and only after receiving approval by the school principal and/or principal designated school transportation representative.

SAFETY 

  1. Pupils shall stay off the streets while waiting the arrival of the bus.
  2. Pupils shall not attempt to get on or off the bus until it has come to a complete stop. 
  3. Pupils shall enter or leave the bus with the consent of the drivers at the front door only, except in case of emergency.
  4. All parts of the body shall at all times be inside the bus windows. 
  5. Pupils shall cross the street, if necessary, in front of the bus in sight and hearing of the driver, look both ways, proceed to cross when street is free from any danger after a signal for the driver or escort.

RAILROAD CROSSING

  1. The bus driver must always come to a complete stop and look both ways to assure him or herself that a train is not approaching before he proceeds. 
  2. The Division of Security, Transportation, Risk Management, and Safety requests that school bus drivers who fail to comply be reported to the Transportaiton office, at 416-5540.

TBI Tennessee Sexual Offenders Registry (TSOR)

  1. Due to the transient nature of persons on the TSOR, we encourage parents to actively review the TSOR to ensure that your son(s) or daughter(s) current bus stop is satisfactory given this potential concern. You can review the TSOR at the following web page: http://www.ticic.state.tn.us/SEX_ofndr/search_short.asp or call toll free at the TSOR Hotline 1-888-837-4170. If you determine your child’s bus stop needs to be reviewed, immediately contact the MCS Transportation Division at 416-5540.
