NCLB Choice Transfers
It is our goal to ensure that all Memphis City Schools students receive a quality education, and the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) helps to reinforce that commitment by providing additional resources for those schools identified as High Priority. Please click here to see if your child’s school is one of our district's High Priority schools for the 2009-2010 school year. If so, it has been identified for missing federal or state mandates for academic improvement two or more years in a row. As a result, you have the following options for your child’s education: Option #1: Keep your child at his/her current school. By keeping your child at his or her current school, you may be eligible to take advantage of Supplemental Educational Services (tutoring at no cost to parents). Additionally, your child’s school is working to boost low achievement through intervention programs and by revising the School Improvement Plan. Option #2: Transfer your child to a school in Good Standing. Click here to download a chart listing the available schools in Good Standing by geographic zone. If you choose to transfer your child to one of the schools designated in your geographic zone on the chart, then free transportation may be provided. To apply, please visit the Office of Student Enrollment and Records at 2597 Avery Ave, Room 104 no later than Friday, September 4, 2009. Transfers will be assigned on a first come, first served basis. Before making a final decision, we urge you to click here and review the current academic status of your child’s school, other schools in the district, as well as city and state averages. Additionally, please discuss your options with your child’s principal and/or teacher(s). We are proud to serve the children of the Memphis community, and we will make every effort to honor your final decision. Furthermore, we encourage your continued input in planning for your child’s future either as a volunteer or by participating in school level decision making.
