Academic Affairs
Dr. Alfred L. Hall, II currently serves as the Chief Academic Officer for Memphis City Schools. Prior to assuming this role, Dr. Hall served as the Director of Professional Development for the district, as well as Director of the Memphis Urban Systemic Program (MUSP), the district’s division for mathematics and science curriculum support and technical assistance. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees for the Memphis Museums Systems, Inc. (the Pink Palace Family of Museums). A native of Greenwood, MS, Dr. Hall received his Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Jackson State University. He went on to receive his Master of Science in Natural Science degree from Delta State University and the Ph.D. in Education from George Mason University in Fairfax, VA. Before coming to Memphis City Schools, Dr. Hall worked as the Project Director of the Delta Rural Systemic Initiative and Assistant Professor of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Mississippi in Oxford, MS. He has also served as the Assistant Director and Science
Education
Specialist for the Eisenhower Regional Consortium for Mathematics and
Science at AEL (now Edvantia), as well as a program evaluator and
project consultant for the Carnegie Academy for Science Education
(CASE), part of the Carnegie Institute’s Initiative with the Washington,
DC Public School System, and the Undergraduate Scholarship Program
(UGSP) sponsored by the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD.
He also completed an internship program within the Division of Human Hall began his career in education as a teacher of
biology and physics
and assumed his first leadership role as the Site Coordinator for the
Mississippi Alliance for Minority Participation (MAMP) program and
Instructor of Biology at Delta State University in 1994. He worked to
provide direct educational support and assistance for minority students As a son of two educators in the Mississippi
Delta, Hall has always been
inspired by the opportunities that are manifested through the process
of
attaining educational goals and real-world experiences. He continues
to
work to build appropriate relationships within the district and the
Greater Memphis Community to engage all stakeholders to accept
responsibility for providing quality educational opportunities and
experiences for all students. Only by working together can great strides
be made to achieve the results associated with preparing a body of
students capable of competing in a global economy and the world of work
in the 21 st Century.
