School
starts Monday, August 13, so the countdown to “back
to school” has begun! Here is information that
parents need to know to get the school year off to
a great start for their children and for themselves.
- Early Registration: Thursday, August 2, 2007, noon - 8 p.m.
- Regular Registration: Tuesday, August 7, 2007, 8 a.m. - 3 p.m.; 6 -
8 p.m.
Parents should bring the following
to registration:
- Proof of residency* or copy
of approved transfer
- The student’'s 2006-07
report card (and summer school
report card if child attended
summer school)
- Child’'s social security
card
For new students, or students
entering grades K, 4, or 7,
Proof of Immunizations required
by the State of Tennessee for
School Attendance:
- All new 7th graders must show
proof of Hepatitis B vaccination
- All new children in K –-
12 must show immunization record,
including proof of two MMR's,
and proof of recent physical
examination
- All Kindergartners must have
had:
- 4 DtaP –- one on or after
the 4th birthday
- 4 polio –- or if only
3, one must be on or after
the 4th birthday
- 2 MMR’'s given after
the first birthday, the second
at least 30 days after the
first
- 1 Varicella (chickenpox) given after first birthday (or parent or
physician diagnosis of chickenpox also acceptable)
- 3 Hepatitis B’'s
*Proof of Residency
In order to register a child to attend one of the Memphis City Schools,
parents or legal guardians should show proof of residence to the principal
or his/her designee. Three documents are recommended. In some cases, a
principal may accept a minimum of one document and allow up to 10 days for
the additional documents to be provided.
Each document should:
- Be the original document
(not a photo copy)
- Be recent (dated within
the last 30 days), and
- Include the current name
and street address of the
parent or legal guardian’'s
primary residence
Acceptable
residency documentation includes:
- Utility bill (MLGW, telephone,
cable)
- Housing rental contract,
lease agreement, purchase contract,
mortgage statement, deed or
property tax statement
- Homeowner’'s or renter’'s
insurance bill
- Automobile insurance papers
- Automobile registration
- Health insurance papers
- Healthcare medical card
- Payroll check
- Public assistance/government
benefits check, card or papers
- Court documents
- Bank statement
- Three or more pieces of
U.S. mail
- A letter from a government
agency, healthcare provider
or employer
- Other documentation deemed
credible and acceptable by
the school principal
NOTE: There is no charge
to residents of the City of
Memphis whose children attend
Memphis City Schools. However,
non-city residents are required
to pay tuition. For the 2006–07
school year, student tuition
per child was $600 for out-of-city
residents, $2,600 for applicants
who live outside Shelby County,
and $5,300 for out-of-state
residents. Tuition costs for
2007-08 will be posted here
as soon as they are available.
