Exhibitors/Sponsors

The Memphis City Schools 4th Annual Career and College EXPO began with an evening reception in the Cook Convention Center Ballroom.  The following two days approximately 5,000 seniors and graduating juniors were provided the "connecting points" for career and college opportunities.  Students visited the exhibit hall and had opportunities to visit with vendors and sponsors representing over 130 businesses, organizations, and educational institutions. (See Video Highlights below.) Ongoing breakout  sessions were also available for smaller groups to meet with representatives.  In the pursuit of excellence,  students were encouraged to believe in themselves, focus on commitment, overcome obstacles and achieve personal and professional satisfaction.

The EXPO event gave students the option to explore career and college opportunities and have one-on-one interaction with potential employers and college recruiters.  The goal was to improve their self-esteem in order for them to become responsible youth who live and work in our communities.

The Memphis City Schools Career and College EXPO is a great way to showcase businesses and institutions and reach thousands of enthusiastic students who are looking for employment or the opportunity to attend a post-secondary institution.  Sponsorships are provided that facilitate partnering with the Memphis City Schools to motivate our youth to develop a positive outlook on life.  As a sponsor, businesses and colleges enjoy the benefits of being associated with a major campaign that gives back to the community and provides students with beneficial information to assist them in developing plans for their future.

The opening night EXPO Reception shines the spotlight on the students, and the overall goal of the EXPO which is to help students connect with colleges and careers.  With over 100 guests present, Dr. Irving Hamer, Assistant Superintendent, kicked off the event by welcoming and addressing the group.  Sounds of Marque'  provided the musical entertainment for the evening. The colors were posted and retired by the Craigmont High School ROTC Color Guard.  Mrs. Willie E. Slate, CTAE Executive Director, provided an overview of the EXPO goals and agenda.  Mrs. Tanika Lester, Instructional Supervisor for Business Technology Education and Region 1 FBLA Coordinator introduced Benjamin Hall from Hamilton High School who is serving as the FBLA Region 1 Reporter.  Benjamin Hall introduced Richard and Justin Xie who placed 1st in the nation in Business Presentation Team at last year's FBLA National Conference in Orlando, Florida. The Xie brothers both addressed the attendees and emphasized the importance of leadership opportunities provided through membership in a CTSO.  FBLA, DECA and SKillsUSA student members served as hosts and hostesses.
