MISSION

A lifelong investment in learning and doing...

The mission of the Division of Careers, Technology, and Adult Education is to prepare students to successfully compete in a global job market requiring higher education and higher levels of technical skills. It is the charge of the Division staff to provide support services to assist teachers in preparing students with the knowledge and skills for higher learning at the post-secondary level, advanced technical training, and a wide range of opportunities in high-skill, high-wage careers.

OVERVIEW

Twenty-five percent (25%) of Careers and Technology students in the state reside in Memphis, making this the largest program in Tennessee. In the 2005-2006 school year, 23,055 students were enrolled in Careers and Technology courses in the Memphis City Schools, 20% of the total number of students in the school system.

The Division of Careers, Technology, and Adult Education provides district-wide leadership and instructional support to middle schools, high schools, and career and technical centers to provide relevant course programs and technical preparation opportunities for these students in the technical or combined career paths. The Division ensures that students in these programs have learning opportunities to compete effectively in the job market and/or pursue post secondary education.
