PROJECT LEAD THE WAY

The MCS Division of Careers, Technology and Adult Education has received a State grant to begin implementation of Project Lead the Way (PLTW) into 4 middle schools. The 2008-2009 school year will be a planning year for Lester, Longview, Fairview and Wooddale Middle Schools.   Selection and training of teachers will begin soon, as well as identification of rooms and equipment needed for successful program implementation.

Project Lead the Way

The PLTW Gateway to Technology (GTT) program is divided into five independent nine-week courses developed for grades six through eight. GTT is taught in conjunction with a rigorous academic curriculum and is designed to challenges and engage the natural curiosity of students.

Gateway to Technology Courses include Design and Modeling, The Magic of Electrons, The Science of Technology, Automation and Robotics, and Flight and Space.

The curriculum builds on the enthusiasm and energy of students. The program focus is on showing, not telling, students how to use engineering skills to solve everyday problems. The primary academic focus is on stronger math, science, and technology inquiry skills.
