Elementary Literacy

 


The literacy program includes the teaching of reading, writing, and elements of language.  Children who are eligible for special education classes usually have been unsuccessful in those areas.  DIBELS is an assessment tool that is used to determine each child’s specific deficit areas.  The Division of Exceptional Children and Health Services is committed to using research-based programs to intervene by teaching to the child’s deficits.  Memphis City Schools’ core program, Scott Foresman Reading, is used, as well as supplemental resources, including Voyager, Failure Free Reading, Language!, Read 180, Don Johnston products, Read Well, SRA, and various computer-assisted instruction programs are used. 

 

Location

All elementary schools in the Memphis City School District provide services for students with disabilities.
