Parent and
Community Relations
The Parent and Community Relations
Program promotes on a district-wide level, positive daily interactions
with parents, teachers, administrators, and community interest regarding
issues relating to Individuals with Disabilities Improvement Act (IDEIA). The program provides a confidential environment
for parents to express concerns or grievances, and/or to make request
for services. The program
was designed to restore parent and community confidence in the Division
and to create open communication among all district stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
·
To
serve
as an initial contact for parents of exceptional children
·
To
respond to parent complaints and tracks complaints to develop permanent
resolutions
·
To
respond to parent queries for information and clarification of special
education policies, rules and regulations
·
To
plan and design professional development sessions for parents
·
To
schedule and provide parent training
·
To
present
parents’ issues to MCS staff
·
To
network with community agencies, comply and disseminate resource
information to school community
·
To
assist with the organization and planning of the Special Education
Advisory Committee
·
To
serve as the Division’s representative on the Special Education
Advisory Committee
·
To
assist with surrogate parents
·
To
maintain reports and statistics on most common parent concerns,
and notify appropriate staff
·
To
provide a direct channel of communication for parents
·
To
suggest approaches for addressing and managing issues relating to
parents and students
·
To
refer parents to proper resources within and outside of MCS District
