Visually Impaired
Program
This is a comprehensive program, which
includes a child-find component and is designed to support students
in the least restrictive environment.
The services provide disability specific support within each
student’s school program; the program staff provides instructions
in compensatory skills unique to students with visual impairments
and curriculum-based instruction for assistive technology and training
with low-vision devices. Information is provided to classroom teachers,
other appropriate school personnel, and the community regarding
the educational implications of visual impairments. Additional support services are provided
by community agencies.
Locations:
Vision services are provided
on an itinerant basis at any MCS site, where the students with visual
impairments are enrolled.
Contacts: Deborah Harris, Coordinator
(901) 416-5205; Clara B. Tate, Program Supervisor (901) 416-8960.
