Anita S. Vaughn, a proud graduate of Central High School, is a dedicated leader in Memphis’ medical community and a champion for quality women’s health care in the city. She graduated from the Baptist Memorial School of Nursing in 1973 and later earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from The University of Memphis. Anita is a 29-year member of the Baptist Memorial Health Care Corp. family. As a registered nurse she spent time working in Surgical Intensive Care and Critical Care units before being promoted to clinical director and assistant vice-president of Baptist East. She led planning and operations for 11 Baptist Minor Medical Centers and six physician practices from 1997-98. In 1998, her guidance led to the development of the Baptist Memorial Hospital for Women. In 2002, Anita was named one of Memphis’ 50 Women Who Make a Difference, and was a chosen finalist for the Memphis Business Journal’s Healthcare Hero Award. She received the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Baptist College of Health Sciences in 2003. Baptist Memorial Hospital for Women also won the Memphis Business Journal’s “Best Place to Work” award in the Large Employers category under her leadership.
