Growing up in Memphis, Lorenzen Wright made a name for himself with his work on the basketball court. Wright graduated from Booker T. Washington. His play there caught the attention of national coaches, who voted him as a starter on the McDonald’s High School All-American Team and the 1995 USA World University Games Team. Lorenzen played his college ball at The University of Memphis, becoming just the third sophomore in school history to score more than 1,000 career points. He was chosen as a Third Team All-American by the Associated Press that season and selected with the seventh selection overall in the 1996 NBA draft by the Los Angeles Clippers. Lorenzen returned to school in 2003 to complete his degree. This year marked Lorenzen’s 10th season in the NBA and his fifth with the Memphis Grizzlies. He is a member of the league’s All-Star Reading Team and the Tickets for Kids Program, which provides free tickets for local churches, charities and child organizations. He also hosts a free week-long summer basketball camp every year for local youth. Lorenzen and his wife, Sherra, have five children: Lorenzen Jr., Loren, twins Lamar and Shamar and infant son Lawson. In 2003, Lorenzen and Sherra established the Sierra Simone Wright Scholarship Fund following the tragic death of their infant daughter.
