Lawrence Johnson was raised in the Whitehaven area of Memphis, Tennessee and is a graduate of Geeter High School’s class of 1957. Following high school, Mr. Johnson attended Tennessee State University majoring in Education, Greg’s Business College, The University of Tennessee and Memphis State University. He is also a graduate of the Real Estate Institute.
Mr. Johnson has been married to his wife Magnolia for 48 years, and they have three children. He has been an active Deacon at Middle Baptist Church in Whitehaven for over 40 years and is the former Superintendent of the Sunday School Division.
He entered the field of real estate in 1962 and also served as an employee of the Shelby County Government in the Property Tax Division from 1969 to 1976.
Lawrence Johnson is President and CEO of Lawrence Johnson Realtors, Inc., which was founded in 1976. Lawrence Johnson Realtors is the largest African American real estate company in the Mid-South. The visionary leadership of Lawrence Johnson and more than 30 years of real estate experience have resulted in a strong commitment to professionalism, sales and services that have earned him the honor of being the first African American to be inducted into the Memphis Area Association of Realtors Multimillion Dollar Sales Club as a life member, as well as being ranked one of the top 25 black-owned businesses by the Memphis Business Journal.
Mr. Johnson uses his success to help strengthen neighborhoods with affordable housing so that every person has a chance to live the American dream of home ownership. He has managed and completed numerous subdivisions such as College Park and Nehemiah. He continues to exemplify compassion in his family, work, church and community. In doing so, he proudly gives back through his service.
