Professional Development of Teachers

Memphis City Schools is working hard to ensure that its teachers know what to teach, how to teach, and have a command of the subject matter being taught. As a result, MCS provides on-going professional development and training for its teachers through the district's Teaching and Learning Academy. Additionally, MCS has formed partnerships with local universities to provide extra training to teachers who are striving to become "Highly Qualified" according to the standards set by "No Child Left Behind"

Who is considered a "Highly Qualified" teacher under"No Child Left Behind?"

Any teacher in a core subject area who has a license from the state, holds at least a bachelor's degree, and demonstrates competence in their subject area.
