The MIAA requires all coaches to earn 6 clinical hours over a 1 year period.

Methods include: workshops, seminars, conferences, and conventions.

For clinical hour standards contact the MIAA Athletic Health Services office.

Every head coach is required to fill out an TSSAA Eligibility Report 1 week prior to the his/her first contest. Complete a new report when players are added or dropped and resend. Only student-athletes, who have a completed Athlete's Health Record  properly signed and on file should be listed.

MIAA Athletic Health Services validates all  Secondary Insurance Claims according to the most recent eligibility report.  If a student-athlete's  name does not appear on the report, the payment process will not be processed..

All  faculty and non-faculty coaches are required to be certified in CPR & First Aid before working with student-athletes.

A copy of you CPR/First Aid Card should be on file at the school.  Please contact your Athletic Director for further instructions.

Student-athletes must have a general primary health insurance policy. Documentation of the insurance carrier and policy number should be recorded on the Emergency Information section of the Athlete's Health Record.

If the student-athlete is not covered, the coach must obtain a letter from the parent/guardian as verification of “No Primary Insurance Coverage.”

MIAA Secondary Insurance for Student-Athletes is mandatory. Insurance is required for each sport the athlete participates.

This record consists of  Pre-Participation/Medical Clearance, Release of Claims/Informed Consent and Emergency Information.

All coaches are required to carry a copy of the Athlete's Health Record completed and signed to all practices and competitions. A copy of the student-athlete’s insurance card should accompany this information.

The TSSAA Board of Control passed a proposal that requires a heat policy for all its member schools. The requirements of the policy include adjustments which must be made for activities depending on the heat index at the location where the activities take place.

The TSSAA Heat policy is the minimum standard that member schools must follow.

The TSSAA Heat policy will prohibit schools from practicing when the heat index at the location of the activity is in excess of 104 degrees Fahrenheit.

Member schools must be in compliance with this policy beginning with the 2009-2010 TSSAA Fall Sports first practice dates.

*Parents/guardians and student-athletes must be informed of the risks for injury associated with athletic participation. They must understand the nature of the risks so informed judgment can be made about involvement. To avoid possible litigation, a Release of all Claims/Informed Consent should be completed, signed by parent/guardian and on file before a student-athlete is allowed to participate in any athletic activity. Parental consent must be obtained in writing to authorize treatment of the student-athlete in case of emergency. The Authorization to Treat statement is located on the Athlete's Health Record form.
