Adolescent Parenting Program

Johnnie B. Watson Child Care Center and Booker T. Washington Child Care Center

Program Purpose:

To provide a model child care program for children ages six weeks to three years old with a curriculum and support services that meet sound infant and toddler development standards for each child served. (2) To provide a laboratory educational experience for teen parents that will provide parenting skills and realistic ideas of parenthood. This experience will contribute to the reduction of child abuse and/or neglect caused by unrealistic expectations of the child by the teen parents. (3) To prevent dropouts by meeting a primary need of teen parents for child care thereby allowing the students to complete their education.

Program Description:

Exceptional facilities, playground, and early childhood personnel due to excellence and commitment to quality. Strong early childhood education program designed to meet Memphis City Schools and the State of Tennessee Department of Education guidelines. These programs develop rich character and positive self esteem in each child.

Program requirements:

Enrollment into the child care program is based on the teen parent being currently enrolled to either Pyramid Academy or Booker T. Washington High School.
