What Features of Informational Texts Do Students Need to Recognize, Understand, and Use? --Most students are familiar with the text features of narrative texts. Language arts and reading teachers typically expose students to these on a regular basis. Students spend less time being explicitly taught to read informational texts like textbooks, but by middle school they are expected to read informational texts independently to learn content material. This resource offers an overview of basic features of informational texts and skills students need in order to successfully comprehend informational texts. The skills should be taught by not only language arts teachers but also by content area teachers.
