Guide to the MCS Family Life and HIV/AIDS Prevention Education Curriculum (K-12)

The major goal of the MCS Family Life and HIV/AIDS Prevention Education Curriculum is to prepare each child to be able to make good, sound choices regarding building relationships, sexual decisions, as well as to help form basic moral values. Additionally, this curriculum includes content that addresses the nature and prevention of HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases. According to the state of Tennessee Family Life Education Law (Public Chapter No. 565, SB1144/HB821), each school district is mandated to provide a plan of instruction for this content and must execute a careful evaluation of the implementation process. Parents have rights to view the curriculum either at a public hearing or by making an appointment with the appropriate teacher(s) at the school-site. Also, parents have the right to excuse their child from any or all parts of the curriculum with a written statement to the principal, the health coordinator, and the superintendent.

The MCS Family Life and HIV/AIDS Curricula Guides, 1997 editions, are available for requisition from the MCS warehouse one. All teachers who provide family life instruction at your school should have access to the grade-level curriculum.
