Staff Development
Memphis City Schools is working hard to ensure that teachers know what
to teach, how to teach, and have a command of the subject matter being
taught by providing on-going professional development and training for
teachers through the districts’ Teaching and Learning Academy.
Staff Development Coordinators provide instructional support through
professional development to administrators and teachers across the district.
Instructional support includes:
- Planning professional development that aligns with school improvement
plans;
- Assisting teachers with the teacher evaluation process;
- Researching best practices, quality literature, and research-based
instructional strategies teachers can implement to increase student
achievement;
- Working jointly with district personnel (Human Resources, Academic
Superintendents, etc.) to provide support for district policies and
initiatives; and
- Working closely with content area staff development coordinators
and New Teacher Induction Staff Development Coordinators conducting
workshops during in-services and other network sessions.
Additionally, a professional development
catalog is created and organized by staff development coordinators
three times a year for teachers and administrators.
The goal is to increase teachers’ professional learning, which
will ultimately increase student achievement.
