MCS Technology PreK - 2 Standards

1. Basic operations and concepts:

Students demonstrate an understanding of the operation and concepts of technologies.

2. Social, ethical, and human issues:

Students understand the ethical, cultural, and societal issues related to using technology by using technology systems, information and software responsibly.

3. Technology productivity tools:

Students use technology productivity tools to collaboratively construct completed products that represent quality work.

4. Technology communication tools:

Students use technology communication tools to communicate information and ideas effectively to multiple audiences.

5. Technology research tools:

Students use technology tools to locate, evaluate, and collect information from a variety of sources, process data and report results.

6. Technology problem-solving and decision making tools:

Students use technology to develop strategies for solving real world problems.

Prior to completion of Grade 2 students will demonstrate the following performances indicators:

1. Using developmentally appropriate and accurate terminology, identify and use input (mouse, keyboard, remote control) and output devices (monitor, printer, etc.) to successfully operate multiple technologies. (1)

2. Follow the directions in a simple menu driven program, with assistance from teachers, peers, or family members. (1)

3. Work cooperatively with others when using technology in the classroom. (2)

4. Exhibit ethical behavior when using technology as identified in the Memphis City Schools Acceptable Use Policy. (2)

5. Use a variety of media and technology resources for teacher directed and independent tasks. (3)

6. Use Memphis City Schools standard software and other technology resources for problem solving, communication, and illustration of thoughts, ideas, and stories. (3)

7. Identify ways that computers are used in students' lives at home, school, play, and work. (4)

8. Demonstrate the effective uses of technology for gathering information and other data. (5)

9. Demonstrate a step-by-step process for using technology to solve specific problems or tasks. (6)

10. Demonstrate appropriate use of word processing, database, and spreadsheet applications. (2) (6)
