With the completion of the network infrastructure, all classrooms
in Memphis City Schools have six network drops with necessary electrical
connections and all libraries have ten network drops. To assist teachers
in effectively using this technology, the Office of Instructional
Technology has developed Cyber School Staff Development which is based
on a similar program in Ohio. This program began with the 2001 school
year on a first come, first serve basis. The program was well received
in its initial year and is now a continuing effort from Instructional
Technology.
During Cyber School a member from the Instructional Technology team
spends a week at a school working with teachers, administrators and
students to improve the use of technology in instruction and communication.
Each school completes a pre-survey prior to the assigned week of training.
The survey assists in planning the appropriate sessions needed at
each school. During the week, teachers work to improve their skills
individually and in small groups.
Cyber School is customized for each school according to faculty and
school needs. The aim of this training is to improve the ability of
teachers and administrators to embed technology into instruction to
prepare our students for the advanced technological society of tomorrow.
