Media Relations

Members of the media should contact the Department of Communications, Marketing & Development, (901) 416-5628, for all interview/information requests. All press releases, Tip Sheets, media advisories, meeting notifications and district announcements can be viewed at www.mcsk12.net.

Primary Functions:

• Disseminate public notifications: Tip Sheets, press releases, meetings, advisories
• Coordinate coverage of school/district news and events

Media Coverage Guidelines:

• Media is NOT permitted on any school campus without clearance from a Communications representative.

• Media is asked to limit all news-related business near schools to public areas, such as sidewalks and/or surrounding streets, so as not to interfere with learning and other school business taking place on campus.

• Media is asked NOT to film the faces or report personal information of individual students for any reason unless the parents of those students are made fully aware and have returned signed media release forms to their child’s school office.

• MCS will abide by all state and federal laws in its efforts to provide interviews and information for media outlets. In the event that a school/district representative is unavailable for interview, a Communications representative will work to provide outlets with official comment in the form of a written statement when possible.

• Open Records requests should be submitted to the district’s office of General Legal Counsel, (901) 416-6370.
