Specialist Among High-Profile List of NAACP Image Award Nominees
Alice
Faye Duncan Thomas, a library media specialist at Middle College High
School, is among the nominees for the 37th NAACP Image Award for Outstanding
Literary Work. Ms. Duncan Thomas’s book "Honey Baby Sugar
Child" was recognized in the children’s category for the
award.

Students Rally for Week of TCAP Testing
Shannon
Elementary School held its first TCAP Kick-Off Rally on Friday, February
3. Each class in grades 1-5 made up a cheer, song or poem to perform
for the school. A team of judges awarded one, two or three stars for
their performances.

Blue
Bell Serves Up Cool Reward for Blue Ribbon Success at Macon
The Blue Bell Ice
Cream Company is making sure students at Macon Elementary know it’s
cool to go to school. As part of Macon’s Blue Ribbon incentives
plan, all students who had perfect attendance during the first semester
were treated to an ice cream party courtesy of Blue Bell Ice Cream.

Awards Technology Challenge
Entries Due April 4
The Memphis City
Schools Academy Awards Technology Challenge is open to all K-12 students
in the district. Central to the Academy Awards Technology Challenge
philosophy is the notion that students learn best by doing. This challenge
invites participants to explore topics within a content area, collaborate
to achieve goals and develop interesting multimedia projects that extend
their knowledge. The backbone of the entire process is teamwork.
