SuperintendentNext week, the week of February 27, Partners in Public Education (PIPE) will issue school by school “Report Cards.” These “Report Cards” (based on our 2005 data) are designed to better educate and inform parents about their school’s academic performance as well as offer insights about how students, staff and parents responded to surveys in 2005.

MCS Hosting HIV/AIDS Awareness Workshop for Teachers

On Friday, February 24, Memphis City Schools will host a teachers workshop aimed at better preparing the district’s health teachers for the complex task of increasing HIV/AIDS awareness among students and gauge how students and parents view topics associated with sexual activity.

Thousands of Elementary Students Band Together at Young People’s Concert

Kenneth Powell, a 12-year-old who attends Downtown Elementary, had it right the moment he walked into the Cannon Center for the Performing Arts to hear the Memphis Symphony Orchestra and said, “this is going to be real grand.”

February Blue Ribbon Spotlight:
Ridgeway Elementary students Party with a Purpose

Every Friday at Ridgeway Elementary, students leave class in exchange for entrance into an elite party complete with popcorn, punch and play. The party is only for the E-Club, and obviously membership comes with certain privileges.

Raleigh Egypt High School
To Host Forum on Gang Awareness
February 23

Raleigh Egypt High School will host a panel of experts from law enforcement, government, the judicial system, higher education and the school district Thursday, February 23 beginning at 6 p.m., in a forum designed to help educate parents and the community about gangs.
