their first Parent-Teacher conferences for the 2006-07 school year.
Meaningful parent-teacher conferences are an important aspect of successful
home-school partnerships and communication and can be a good starting
point for a successful year for students, their parents and schools.

Judy Peebles Receives Presidential Volunteer Service Award
Special
education teacher Judy Peebles was the recipient of the Presidential
Volunteer Service Award from the Points of Life Foundation, receiving
the gold medal for having more than 500 hours of volunteer service
as director of Youth Energized for Service (Y.E.S.). President
Bush created the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation
to find ways to recognize the valuable contributions of volunteers.

School Student Winners Sought for the Prudential
Spirit of Community Awards
Memphis
City Schools middle and high school students who have demonstrated
outstanding community service over the past year are encouraged to
apply for the annual Prudential Spirit of Community Awards and to submit
their applications to their principals by October 31.

Burchfield Receives State Award
Mable Burchfield
was named the 2005-2006 Outstanding Educator/Administrator of the Year
during a recognition ceremony hosted by the Tennessee Association of
Career and Technology Education (TACTE) during the annual Career and
Technology Summer Conference in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
