Meetings of the Board of
Commissioners are normally held on the first and third Monday
of every month. Meetings begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Board of Education
Auditorium and are broadcast live over Cable 19 and WQOX 88.5 FM. The
Board of Education has set the following tentative dates for Board
meetings for the fall semester:

October 29 - 5:30 p.m. -- Audit Committee Meeting & Academic Support Committee Meeting Tuesday, October 30 - 2 - 5 p.m. -- Retreat/Meeting with Mike Casserly - Renaissance Hotel – Nashville, Tennessee Wednesday, October 31 – Sunday, October 4 -- Fall Conference of the Council of Great City Schools - Nashville Tennessee NOVEMBER Saturday, November 10 - Tuesday, November 13 -- Tennessee School Board Association's Annual Convention - Nashville, Tennessee Monday, November 26 - 5:30 p.m. -- Town Hall Meeting, Location to be announced. Board Vice President Tomeka Hart, pictured below, was a special guest at Shannon Elementary’s kick off event for the MCS Reads campaign Monday, October 8. ![]() The Board honored several individuals at its October 15 Board meeting, including Margaret Bland McKissick Larry, who was named Tennessee Principal of the Year; Central High School and Central student Jireh Holder as they were recognized by the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) for excellence in instruction and writing respectively; National Achievement Scholarship semifinalists Joy A. Buolamwini, of Cordova High; Dionti K. Davis, White Station High; Danielle E. Frieson, Central High School; Eldridge M. Green, White Station High; Cameron T. Howard, Central High; Ebone N. Ingram, Cordova High; Dwon D. Reynolds, Craigmont High; Ricky D. Richardson, Whitehaven High, and Keisha M. White, White Station High. Also during the October 15 Board meeting, the Board accepted a $20,000 check from ExxonMobil. The funds are being divided equally among four schools -- John P. Freeman, Keystone Elementary, White Station Middle and Overton High schools -- to place additional emphasis on math and science. Insider Home -
