This workshop will show how to improve writing skills and scores of your students with an online writing
environment and instructional tool that diagnoses and assesses the writing ability of students in grades 4‐12 and at
the college level. MY Access! developed by Vantage Learning will be demonstrated as an online “writing tutor” that
instantly grades open‐ended essays, provides drafting, formative assessment reports, writing and revision tools
and motivates students to enjoy the process of becoming successful, engaged writers.

Mentoring as Collaboration: Lessons from the Field for Classroom, School and District Leaders
Mentoring as Collaboration is an advocated program for teacher mentoring for all TN schools and districts and is
shared through TN Academy for School Leaders (TASL) by the TN State Department of Education. One unique
feature is a school‐based leadership team including an administrator and teacher leaders who are responsible for
all mentoring relationships and activities. The program was originally designed 10 years ago for urban schools and
high need schools in TN, but rapidly expanded to all school settings. The presentation will address the program
outcomes achieved and practical, “how to” implementation guidelines to ensure an effective collaborative teacher
mentor program.

The Urban Education Center at Memphis City Schools is designed to address the need for exemplary leaders for
exemplary schools. The UEC features the Executive Leadership Program, Principals’ Academy and Summer
Institutes that provide professional development and support for urban educators. This presentation will share
the Theory of Action guiding the UEC and leadership development process in a large urban district.

Freshman Academy
This session is designed to help educators understand general expectations in the small community known as the
Freshman Academy. We will look at weekly advisories and the advisement system. Presenters will discuss the
value of Academy visits to freshman students being transitioned into high school, how teams of teachers are
assigned to common teams of students, and the role of teachers and parents in the Academy. We will also address
methods to assist students in developing strong study habits during the first year of high school.

The Memoirs of a 1st Year Principal
This session is designed to motivate aspiring principals as they transition to the next level of the principalship.

practical, data‐driven strategies to improve the school climate from month to month.

Using Data to Drive School Culture
The presentation will give an overview of two years of successful data implementation at Kingsbury Middle School.
Data is used to manage and improve all aspects of KMS culture, including discipline, attendance, and student
