R101 R102 Stanford Math Algebra I Resources Participants will discuss effective implementation and utilization of the Algebra I Intervention/Enrichment component of Stanford Math. Presenter(s): Harold Baker, Angela Erickson, Susane Thomas, and Nicholas Stutzman Domain 8.0: Research & Standards‐Based Curriculum/Instruction R103 ELL: Service Delivery Models and Effective Literacy Instruction This session will provide participants with an overview of the nine state‐approved service delivery models that are available for the instruction of English Language Learners (ELL). Participants will discuss the challenges of scheduling 90‐minute literacy blocks for beginning level ELL and the grading responsibilities for Reading and Language Arts at the elementary level. The session will also discuss the implementation of three‐tier literacy instruction for ELL. Each session will end with a question and answer period. Additionally, the high school session will discuss work‐based learning. Participants will develop a deeper understanding of SLC best practices that support the implementation and incorporation of these practices school wide. As a result of this workshop, participants will identify high‐impact resources and trainings that will strengthen SLC practices; clarify school wide changes needed to implement rigorous, relevant curriculum and instruction; and design communication strategies and community linkages that build capacity and sustainability. Gaps in cultural practices will be identified and analyzed and strategies developed to enrich the school culture as teachers become a collegial data‐driven community. The consortium will explore strategies for 1) developing school specific values and making these values explicit; 2) developing strong capacity in teachers and staff; and 3) developing a common data system, monitoring the system and celebrating proven success. \ Presenter(s): Tisha White Domain 6.0: Accountability & Systemwide Performance R109 Coordinated School Health: Making and Keeping Schools Healthy The Coordinated School Health model consists of eight interactive components which include health education, physical activity and physical education, health services, nutrition services, counseling, psychological, and social services, healthy school environment, staff wellness, and family and community involvement. The highlights will include its use for future planning, engaging students and Imagine Memphis. High school youth involved with Imagine Memphis will explain their first‐hand experience and the benefits from dialoguing with adults. Presenter: Mary Jo Greil Domain 2.0: Climate/Culture R112 The Nuts and Bolts of an ISS Program: Making it Work at Your School This presentation will cover expectations of the In‐School Suspension program and job responsibilities of the ISS Assistant. The best practices of an ISS Program as well as solutions to common problems will also be discussed. Participants will also learn how to address job performance issues related to the position of the ISS Assistant. There will be a focus on building healthy relationships (peer and adult) and how to positively impact student achievement. Learn strategies to increase parental and community involvement and support.
