Academics

All alternative school classrooms are warm, friendly and inviting. Our highly qualified and certified teachers follow the MCS curriculum guides and pacing, paying close attention to the mastery of State Performance Indicators (SPI’s). Due to the high volume of student transition, we strive to give students the opportunity to become successful in spite of the fact that many come to us as struggling learners.

Our small pupil-teacher ratio affords teachers the opportunity to individualize instruction based on students’ strengths and weaknesses and to address the learning styles of students. Teachers use a variety of techniques such as technology, project based-learning, and alternative assessments in their classrooms. PLATO, the MCS web-based curriculum is used extensively in after school tutoring, to remediate academic deficiencies and prepare students for state assessments. Professional Counselors work diligently with students to plan their academic future and to ensure that students are afforded every opportunity to take all state mandated tests as soon as possible.

We pride ourselves in knowing that when students leave our programs, they are better prepared academically to return to their home schools.
