Alternative Schools
provide students who have been expelled from the traditional school
for zero-tolerance offenses, the opportunity to learn in a non-traditional
educational environment. While enrolled in our program, teachers strive
to keep students actively engaged in educational experiences that promote
higher level thinking skills and problem solving.
Our goal is to reform student behavior, as well as increase academic
achievement by providing a small pupil-teacher ratio. Alternative Education
Specialists work with students individually and meet with students of
similar offenses in groups. They follow a curriculum designed to cover
appropriate behaviors, character building and wise decision-making.
Mental Health personnel stand ready to provide services to students
identified by staff as needing academic or behavioral intervention.
Educational decisions are based on the needs and welfare of students
through weekly staff meetings. Parents are encouraged to become an integral
part of the process and feedback is provided to them through progress
reports, conferences and parent meetings hosted by site administrators
and principals.
We expect students to return to their home school, once their period
of expulsion is completed, equipped with tools to learn more effectively
and make decisions wisely.
