Schools’Awards
Provide the Perfect Ending to a Great School Year
The Division of Alternative Schools and Programs is proud
of its record of service to students assigned to alternative,
success, and choice schools. The division also recognizes
the dedication and hard work of a great staff of professionals
that help students improve academic achievement and overall
behavior. In order to honor teachers and support staff who
provide exemplary service to students, several awards were
established last year to express gratitude for jobs well done.
Seven categories of awards were presented to staff during
the alternative schools’ Annual Awards Program held
at Appling Manor on May 30, 2007. For the first time, awards
were presented to staff nominated by their peers and selected
by a committee representing alternative, success, and choice
school sites. A special lifetime achievement award was presented
to Cheryl Cathey for her dedication and commitment to volunteerism
and service learning. To show gratitude for her work, Joris
Ray announced that a yearly service-learning award will be
named in her honor. Congratulations to the following persons
as recipients of the 2006-2007 Alternative Schools’

– commendable leader who motivates, encourages,
models expectations, communicates effectively, involves parents/guardians,
