Mission
Avon Lenox will provide educational opportunities for students with disabilities by utilizing an interdisciplinary approach and departmentalization of curricular domains. Through instruction in Life Skills, Academics, Vocational/Work-Based Learning, Recreation/Leisure, Socialization and Community-Based Instruction, students will strive to reach their maximum potential for effective living and functioning in a diverse society.
Vision Statement
Avon Lenox School will strive to unify and share the responsibility with all stakeholders to ensure educational opportunities for students with disabilities that allow them to:
- Enter a safe, clean, nurturing, and positive environment
- Become as independent as possible by participating in authentic educational experiences and instructional activities.
- Demonstrate respect, support, equity, and understanding in all situations and respond in a socially acceptable manner.
- Engage in meaningful opportunities that enhance communication and participation in all aspects of society: home, school, community and work.
- Develop skills necessary for successful transition into post-graduation placements.
School Beliefs
- All students, regardless of the severity or type of disability, have individual needs.
- Skills, which are attainable for each student in the area of learning, should be identified and nurtured.
- Activities in the school should be success oriented so that each student may have a positive self-image.
- The curriculum should consist of functional, age-appropriate skills and activities that have transitional value for adult life.
- The process of education should be transferable and validated to the student’s daily lives in the home, at school, in the community and at the work site.
- Opportunities must be sought to expand our knowledge and improve our professional development in order to ensure an appropriate education for all students
- Crisis Prevention Intervention Management techniques should be utilized in all situations where the students could harm themselves, other students, or school staff.
- The environment should be safe, challenging, and satisfying.
- All students can learn and be successful in their present and future lives.
