Social Studies: Contemporary Issues
Course Description: In Contemporary Issues, students study various dynamic issues facing today’s society enabling them to discover their values and responsibilities as citizens in that society. The course will utilize six social studies standards of essential content knowledge and four process skills are integrated for instructional purposes. Students will utilize different learning methods to research, discuss, debate and formulate opinions on those contemporary issues.

3. What is the name of the lead story? You will find it right below the USA
TODAY banner.
4. Click on the "story link and read the article. Summarize the main points.
5. Go back to the front page (www.usatoday.com) and check out some of the other
sections – News, Travel, Money, Sports, Life, Tech, and Weather (listed next to
the USA Today box at the top left). Compose 5 questions that children could
answer from any one of the stories you read.
6. Look at the USA Today Snapshot toward the bottom of the page and put together
a question to help children read a graph. (Use Control F and type in Snapshot if
you can’t find the spot.)
