All families new and returning must bring to registration one of the following documents along with one other from the list of approved residential proofs:

Provide one of the following:

  • housing rental contract
  • lease agreement
  • purchase contract
  • mortgage statement
  • deed or property tax statement

And One Approved Residential Proofs

  • a utility bill (MLGW, cable, or telephone)
  • homeowner's or renter's insurance bill
  • automobile insurance papers
  • automobile registration
  • health insurance papers or healthcare medical card
  • payroll check or public assistance/government benefits check, card or papers
  • bank statement

Children entering kindergarten, and those entering first grade who are new to Memphis City Schools, must also present a birth certificate, immunization record and evidence of medical examination. Students who are entering Memphis City Schools from other accredited schools are admitted at the level authorized by their transcripts.

Under Tennessee law, certain immunizations are required of students enrolled in public schools. Kindergartners must have either been vaccinated against or have had chickenpox (varicella), three doses of hepatitis B, four doses of polio vaccine, four doses of DPT (diphtheria/tetanus/pertussis), two doses of MMR (measles/ mumps/rubella. Students entering fourth, eighth and twelfth grade must have had two doses of MMR, and seventh graders must have three doses of hepatitis B.
