| Philosophy |
| The school library information center strengthens student learning and serves as a resource for the school community. The library information specialist collaborates with classroom teachers to integrate curricular concepts, information skills, and research strategies. The library information center's program adequately supports the Memphis City Schools' curriculum. |

| Goals |
- To select and provide an organized collection of current resources for classroom and individual use in sufficient quantity, quality, and variety to implement the instructional program.
- To develop a squential instructional program for students in the independent use of resources.
- To recommend media resources to accomplish specific instructional objectives.
- To provide and maintain access to current technologies for information and research.
- To collaborate with classroom teachers in the implementation of the curriculum.
- To establish and maintain an environment which enables and motivates students to develp independence in learning strategies, critical thinking skills, communication skills, appropriate attitudes, and apprectiation of literature for both pleasure and information.
- To motivate students to develop life-long skills in communications, critical thinking, and the utilization of information.

| Policies |
| Hours: 7:00-2:30, Monday-Friday |
| General Policies |
- Students must sign in at the library desk when arriving individually and leave their backpacks at the front of the room.
- Students must have a library pass when coming from a class.
- Teachers may NOT send students to the library to do work for a different teacher.
- Students should keep feet off the chairs at all times.
- Students must not lean back in chairs.
- Do not put books back on the shelf...Return them to the book drop.
- Keep all books pulled to the front of the shelves.
- Students are expected to work quietly, be respectful of the rights of others, and take care of library materials.
- NO FOOD, GUM, OR DRINKS ARE ALLOWED IN THE LIBRARY.

| Circulation Policies |
- General circulation books are checked out for two weeks.
- ID may be required to check out a book.
- Books may be renewed if there is not a waiting list for the book.
- You must bring your book with you to the library in order to renew it.
- Return books to the circulation desk book drop.

| Fines |
- Fines are 10 cents per school day for non-reference materials, 25 cents per school day for reference materials..
- Other materials may not be checked out until fines are cleared.
- Overdues will be sent to your English teacher each Monday. If you receive a notice, come to the library even if you believe it is an error.
- Report cards and final grades will be held until late books are returned and all fines are paid.

| Reference Books |
- Reference books may be checked out overnight and are due by the end of first period.
- If they are not returned by the end of first period, a fine of 25 cents per day will be accessed.
|
| Lost Books |
- Report lost books to the library immediately.
|
| Internet |
- The internet is available for school assignments only.
- Any student accessing the internet must have a Student Access Form on file.
- Students must check in with a librarian before using a computer.
- Students must sign in at the front desk and also by the computer they are using.

| CD ROM Computers |
- Encyclopedias and magazine articles are available on computer. Printouts are 10 cents per copy.
|
| Copy Machine |
- A copy machine is available in the library for student convenience.
- Copies will be made by the librarian or assistant at a cost of 20 cents per page.
