Personal Code of Ethics as School Administrators

Educational administrators must adhere to social, mental, and professional ethics as they reflect specific expectations and knowledge as leaders. These attributes must be realistic and idealistic, so all educational administrators can acquire them. Administrators must be able to create a school with collegial trust and the authority to carry out improvements. There is a responsibility of leadership practice with morals, purposes, values, and beliefs; that can transform a school organization into a community of learners. It must be recognized that competency, and the ability to maintain standards of exemplary professional conduct are strictly adhered to. An administrator must be in full acceptance and valued by the community, professional associates, faculty/staff, and students. To these ends, the administrator subscribes to the following statements of ethical standards.

The educational administrator must:

  1. Obey local, state, and national laws and does not knowingly join or support organizations that do not advocate directly or indirectly, the government.
  2. Adhere and follow all rules mandated by the Tennessee state Department of Education and the Laws of the State regarding education.
  3. Provide helpful assistance to principals, colleagues, and other school leaders that will enable them to become successful in fulfilling their goals and providing leadership to their respective school.
  4. Avoid using position for personal gain through political, social, religious, economic, or other influences.
  5. Accept academic degrees or professional certification only from accredited institutions.
  6. Continue to pursue effective measures of instruction and administrative practices.
