| Craigmont Middle School opened as a new school in the fall
of 2001. At the time of its opening, only a small portion of the Memphis
City Schools' budget was allocated for books in the new school's library.
Consequently, Craigmont Middle received a limited number of books that year
and has had to work steadily over the next few years adding new books to
the total count each year.
CMS opened the 2007/08 school year with 9,150 books in the school's library/media center. State accreditation rules require that a school the size of Craigmont Middle must have 10,100 books. This means that we began the year 950 books short of what we needed. Through fundraising efforts and a few grants that we received this year, we have met our goal. The school now has over 10,100 books in our library/media center. Two grants that Craigmont Middle School received this year totaled $5,500 and were made available through the Community Enhancement Grant that was coordinated through the Secretary of State's office in Nashville, TN. Pictured here are Ms. Leigh Ann Gunnells, CMS librarian, and some of the books that were added to the library this year. |
