Craigmont Middle School has gotten off to a wonderful start this year. During the summer our CMS cheerleading squad attended a UCA camp at Memphis Catholic High School and won the Tradition Award, along with three first place trophies, and one third place trophy. Cheerleader Jamara Washington won first place in the jump-off, and the squad had two other girls who were in the final round. Caldaysha Neal and Taylor George were chosen for the All American Team.
CMS is also very proud of Language Arts teacher, Phillystene Terry, who attended the 2009 Standards Awareness Training sponsored by the Tennessee Department of Education. Ms. Terry was not only involved in the training, but she also helped write and develop Integrated Project Plans (IPPs) for Grade 8. She was also involved in another project that connected IPPs for English/Language Arts and Social Studies. To add to those distinctions, she gave (at a moment’s notice!) a presentation at the ELA in-service to over 700 teachers. The session was held at East High School during in-service week.
Another point of pride for the school is the fact that over 480 people attended our Title One Annual Meeting and Open House that was held on Thursday evening, September 3, 2009. The band and orchestra performed and over 135 seventh and eighth grade students were honored with certificates for achieving “advanced” status on either or both the Reading/Language Arts or Math portions of the TCAP given last spring. Parents were also able to visit with teachers that evening.
Probably the greatest point of pride for the school is the fact that CMS achieved AYP again for the third year in a row.
