2005 NCLB Blue Ribbon School

An academically superior optional school, Delano Elementary School is a 2005 recipient of the U.S. Department of Education's No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon Award.  This national honor recognized Delano as a school whose students score in the top 10% on state test, regardless of their backgrounds or demographic makeup.

EPIC Silver Award Winning School

To be eligible for EPIC awards, an MCS school must have made academic gains, measured by TCAP and Gateway test data in all subject areas, with no regression during the 2007-08 school year, compared with the 2006-07 school year. In addition, at least 50 percent of the student population at qualifying schools must receive free and reduced lunch.

The school seeks to prepare its learners to use the latest technology, while developing high level skills in the areas of critical thinking, communication, reading, writing and mathematics.

Focus on Technology


Working with two computer platforms, students at Delano are exposed to a host of multimedia software and digital equipment that includes spreadsheet applications, presentation software, web development software, graphics software and databases.

Digital cameras, scanners, computers and a smartboard enrich students' daily educational experiences. Other technology used to enhance students' learning experiences includes a closed-circuit television network, a television studio and a networked computer environment.
