Academics and Enrichment

Downtown Elementary is an Enriched Academics optional school. The school takes advantage of its unique urban location by using Downtown Memphis as a "living laboratory" in which students learn from the people, places, and other resources available within a short distance from the school. Students take frequent field trips to historical, educational, and cultural sites in the downtown area. Guest speakers from nearby businesses and organizations bring their expertise into classrooms to share with Downtown students.

The curriculum of Downtown Elementary is designed to provide the maximum in educational opportunities, enhancing both the academic and social development of students.

Support classes available for Downtown students include Orff music, computer technology, physical education, art, Spanish, and library studies. CLUE (Creative Learning in a Unique Environment) is offered for students who are intellectually gifted.

A broad range of in-school enrichment activities for students are offered including various clubs, science fair, spelling and geography bees, student newspaper, and special projects.

Tuition-based after-school activities include dance, drama, art, karate, swimming, theater, guitar, strings, piano, and chess. Downtown Elementary also has before-and-after-school child care with meaningful enrichment activities.
