Isaac Hayes

Musician and Recording Artist
(1942-    )

Isaac Hayes is one of the greatest talents in the music business. He began as one of Stax’s recording artists and is know for his passion. He worked on more Stax writing, recording sessions, and music tracks than any other musician with the exception of Sam and Dave. Now lets look at his younger days.

Isaac Hayes was born on August 20, 1942 in Covington, Tennessee. As a child, he ran errands, cut lawns, delivered groceries and wood for fireplaces, cleaned bricks, and shined shoes. He was also a bus boy and a dishwasher. More than anything, Isaac Hayes was a man of action and determination. As a teenager, he almost dropped out of Manassas High School. However, he had outstanding grades and was persuaded to go back to school.

In 1971, Isaac Hayes wrote and produced the theme song "Shaft" for the movie of the same name. It became #1 on the Pop and R&B charts. He now owns his own restaurant in The Peabody Place located in Memphis, Tennessee. In the long run, Isaac Hayes followed his dreams and gave Memphis amazingly good music and through his restaurant good food.
