Optional Program in Health Sciences

An application for Optional Schools is available at East High School or the Division of Optional Schools at the Board of Education, 2597 Avery, Room 106. |
|

|
|
- In grades 9-12, students interested in the College Preparatory program in Health Sciences must have a B average per course/per semester with no failing grades, and scores at or above the 65th percentile on a current nationally-normed or TCAP Achievement Test on the Reading/Language Arts AND Mathematics sub-tests or the equivalent.

- Satisfactory conduct and attendance (Including promptness to school and to each class) are also required. A total of more than 15 absences and/or tardies is considered unsatisfactory.

|

|
|
- Optional students must take the PLAN in the tenth grade. The PSAT/NMSQT is required in the tenth and eleventh grades.
|
|
|
| |
|
|
- Final approval is contingent upon review of the student's second semester grades.
|
|
|
| |
|
|
- Transportation is the responsibility of the student's parents/legal guardians.
|
|
|
| |
|
|
To remain in the optional program, students must maintain the program requirements, a C or above in each course for the semester, and satisfactory conduct and attendance (including promptness to school and each class). In addition, all optional students must score advanced on the appropriate Gateway exams. |
