The total number of books on hand in the Georgia Avenue
Elementary School Library is now over 12,000. The strength of our library
collection lies in the many accelerated book titles and the multicultural
book collection.
Georgia Avenue received the Improving Literacy through
Libraries Grant in the fall of 2003 and the Laura Bush Grant in May,
2004 to improve the library.

Fiction--1,963 books
Easy Fiction--4.276 books
Nonfiction--6,000
Professional Collection--171
To build a better collection to fit the needs of the
students and the curriculum, we are constantly evaluating the library's
collection to determine what needs to be weeded. Due to the merger of
Locke Elementary with Georgia Avenue Elementary the libraries were weeded
quite extensively.

REFERENCE
Our reference collection contains over 453 volumes including
five sets of encyclopedias. We also have an encyclopedia set on CD-ROM
and several other specialized sets. We have dictionary, atlas, and almanac
sets for whole classes and many reference books and sources.
PERIODICALS
There are 10 subscriptions to children's magazines and
seven professional subscriptions.
