Library Media Skills Curriculum

The Library Media Skills Curriculum categorizes the skill areas into four domains. These domains are: Orientation, Identification/Location, Selection/ Comprehension/Utilization, and Production.

Orientation

Orientation includes objectives introducing students to the rules and procedures of the library media center, as well as acquainting them with the physical environment of the center. These concepts are basic for all students in the independent use of the library media center.

Identification/Location

The objectives in the domain, Identification/Location, are concerned with recognizing and finding parts of a book, fiction and nonfiction books, audiovisual materials, reference resources, magazines, and other appropriate materials in the library media center.

Selection/Comprehension/Utilization

The selection, understanding, and use of library media materials are the focus of this domain. Generalization, demonstration, organization, and application of library media skills are all included in the objectives identified in Selection/Comprehension/ Utilization.
