LIBRARY

Georgia Avenue Library has a warm and inviting atmosphere. It is one of the most beautiful school libraries anywhere. The library has a full range of information resources and services and is well integrated into content area curricula. I encourage students to be responsible for their own lifelong learning and to make a positive contribution to society.

Georgia Avenue Library Mission Statement

The mission of Georgia Avenue Library Media Center is:

  • to ensure that students and staff have the abilities to access, evaluate, develop and use information from a variety of sources to solve information problems and to communicate effectively
  • to encourage students, parents, staff, and the community to be aware of the important role that literature and the development of good reading habits play in becoming lifelong learners

My goal is to help students live together in a global community. In the process of fulfilling the goal and objectives, the students will learn to love literature, think creatively, respect themselves, respect others, respect property, and access, use and evaluate information

Program Objectives

The mission of Georgia Avenue Library Media Center is fulfilled by functioning as an integral part of the entire school program and by serving as an active partner in the learning process by meeting the following objectives:

1. to insure that information skills and strategies are taught as they are required by the learners in context, I utilize the Big Six Information Problem Solving Approach and the Shelby County Study Skills Guide
2. to become an extension of the classroom by cooperatively planning lessons with the classroom teacher which would make learning more meaningful and support the classroom instruction
3. to encourage students to make proper use of the library and to provide an educational program of learning experiences that actively involves students in the effective use of a wide range of print, non-print, electronic and human resources
4. to provide literature appreciation and instill a desire to read as a lifelong activity
5. to provide consultative services for teachers and students

My goal is to help students live together in a global community. In the process of fulfilling the goal and objectives, the students will learn to love literature, think creatively, respect themselves, respect others, respect property, and access, use and evaluate information
