Family Engagement*
Graves Parents are encouraged to participate in the school community as well as provide academic support at home. Research suggests that students perform better in school when parents are actively involved in their children's education. Graves' parents are partners in this important job of educating the children of this community. We will be able to accomplish much by working together. Parents render many invaluable services. Please feel free to inquire in the office or with your child's teachers to learn how you can help.
The Graves Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization is open to any parent, guardian, or teacher. This organization serves as a link between home and school. Meetings will be scheduled on a monthly basis to discuss parental concerns, progress and ideas concerning the school and the community. Members have the right to vote when annual dues are paid.
Nikki Golden and Kimberly Hyde will continue to serve in the President and Vice-President positions, respectiviely, for the 2007-08 school year.
Parents are also encouraged to be representatives in the Parent Assembly, the School Leadership Council, and at various other meetings that occur throughout the year. |

*Section 1118 of No Child Left Behind (NCLB) requires each school district receiving Title I, Part A funds, to implement programs, activities and procedures designed to involve parents. According to the Act, school districts must consult with parents of children participating in Title I programs to develop and carry out the parental involvement programs. The Tennessee Department of Education NCLB Information link will give a more extensive description of what is required by NCLB regarding family engagement. |
