Principal, Ms. Garnita Goodman

Dr. Benjamin L. Hooks Job Corps Academy Soaring Eagles

The mission of Dr. Hooks Job Corps Academy is to provide all students with skills necessary to assure the possibility of a productive, successful and happy life. It is our goal to provide support services that will assist teachers in preparing students with the knowledge and skills for higher learning. We believe that every student needs a network of support to ensure success in core vocational and elective subjects. We further acknowledge that exposure to meaningful learning experiences enables our students to see and understand the relevancy of their learning.

We are more than just a high school, we offer academic instruction for students who are looking to begin their careers NOW. We also provide technical and career programs and career opportunities for students in the technical and or combined career paths. Furthermore, we strive to ensure that students in these programs have learning opportunities to compete effectively in the job market and /or to pursue a post graduate education.

We have successfully graduated over 85 student employees since my tenure in July, 2005. In addition, students participate in job internships. This year we have expanded our capacity for new course offerings in Spanish I and II and Culinary Arts.

Of course, we attribute all of our successes to the support of a great staff and parent and community involvement. However, we need our parents to support our efforts by ensuring that our nonresidential students arrive to school everyday and on time. We also need parents to assist us in mentoring and tutoring our students in ACT prep and Gateway sessions Monday through Thursday and on Saturdays.  Please ensure that your child avails him/or herself of this opportunity.

I appreciate the opportunity to work with your son or daughter and to establish a partnership with you this school year.
