Entering 2nd Grade:

Suggested Summer Reading and Math Activities

The goal of summer reading is to encourage the enjoyment of reading and acquaint students with specific authors, as well as to encourage the reading habit by suggesting a wide range of authors of fiction, nonfiction and series books. Summer reading is a time when children can focus on the fun of reading by reading what interests them. The habit of "reading for fun" has been identified as a crucial factor in predicting academic success, building vocabulary, and increasing comprehension (essential literacy skills). Summer vacation is the perfect time to encourage this practice. Visit your nearest Public Library and let the celebration of summer reading begin!
